French diplomat seconded to the UN whose Epstein correspondence led to a 2026 Paris financial-prosecutor inquiry

Fabrice Aidan is a French diplomat who spent 2006 to 2013 on secondment to the United Nations in New York, including as an adviser to Terje Rød-Larsen. Released U.S. files show him emailing Jeffrey Epstein from personal and UN accounts between 2010 and 2016, forwarding documents and coordinating dinners and regional forums. On February 17, 2026, France's national financial prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation that names him. He denies wrongdoing. No conviction has been entered.12

  Diplomatic access

AP reported that Aidan appeared in more than 200 released documents, including emails from personal and UN accounts between 2010 and 2016. It cited Mediapart's reporting that the files suggested he supplied confidential UN material to Epstein. Aidan denies wrongdoing.3

  The 2026 inquiry and the March searches

On February 16, 2026, the French foreign ministry referred facts concerning Aidan to the Paris prosecutor, which transferred the matter to the Parquet national financier. On February 17 the PNF opened a preliminary investigation for passive corruption of a foreign public official and complicity, targeting Aidan in particular. The referral followed the Epstein-file release and subsequent French reporting.2

On March 20, 2026, investigators searched several locations, including the Paris premises of Edmond de Rothschild. The PNF confirmed the searches in a March 24 communiqué signed by financial prosecutor Pascal Prache. The work was assigned to the central office for corruption and financial crime. The bank said it was cooperating and that it had opened an internal review of a former employee. Aidan's lawyer has called for respect for the presumption of innocence.21

The March communiqué described the proceeding as a preliminary investigation.2
