Former Tower Financial head Steven Hoffenberg sued Jeffrey Epstein in 2016 claiming he masterminded the 1990s Ponzi scheme that left investors out more than $460 million. Hoffenberg alleged Epstein owed him and other victims restitution because he was the true architect of the fraud.1
The Southern District of New York dismissed parts of the case and Hoffenberg died in 2022 before any recovery. His accusations remain a lingering controversy, but no prosecutor has tested them in court.
