The Eastern European Recruitment Network

AssociatesRecruitment

How Epstein sourced women from former-Soviet and Eastern-European countries through a tier of paid scouts and intermediaries between 2009 and 2019

When Jeffrey Epstein's network is examined geographically, a distinct sourcing corridor emerges running from the former Soviet republics and Eastern Europe into his Palm Beach, Manhattan, and Caribbean properties. The 2024–2026 document releases — tens of thousands of pages of correspondence, wire records, and court exhibits — show that this corridor was not improvised. It was staffed. A small number of individuals based in or connected to Russia, Ukraine, and a network of European modeling hubs forwarded profiles and candidates, received regular payments, and served as the contact layer between Epstein's household and women who, in many cases, did not yet know what they were being recruited for.

The three figures examined in this dossier occupied different positions within that structure. Daniel Siad worked as a modeling scout forwarding photographs and profiles from Eastern Europe, the Maghreb, and elsewhere; a 2016 court exhibit attributed to Jean-Luc Brunel named him explicitly as "a scout or recruiter of girls and/or women for J. Epstein." Svetlana Pozhidaeva — now known as Sofia Platt — was a Russian assistant who acknowledges recruiting women and who received structured monthly payments through Epstein's foundation; she says she was herself coerced. A Ukrainian model identified in released correspondence only as Nastia N. forwarded candidate names and profiles to Epstein and his assistant Lesley Groff between 2015 and 2019 in exchange for flights, education payments, and gifts. Each case illustrates a different layer of the sourcing apparatus. None of the three has been charged in connection with Epstein's trafficking crimes in the United States. Pozhidaeva and Nastia N. both describe themselves as victims.

  Daniel Amar Siad

Background and Entry into Epstein's Orbit

Daniel Amar Siad, born in the Kabylia region of Algeria around 1957 and holding Swedish-Algerian citizenship, worked for decades as a modeling scout across Europe, North Africa, and beyond.1 He appears in more than 1,000 documents released from Epstein's digital archive, with some counts suggesting closer to 2,000 total references.2

The nature of his role is laid out in a March 3, 2016 court exhibit produced in Maxwell-related litigation and attributed to statements made by Jean-Luc Brunel — the founder of MC2 Model Management, whose agency Epstein co-financed. That exhibit describes Siad as "a scout or recruiter of girls and/or women for J. Epstein."1 Brunel died by suicide in a Paris jail in February 2022 while awaiting trial on separate sex-trafficking charges, and cannot be cross-examined. The attribution is from an investigative court document, not an uncontested legal finding.

    Documented Activity

The correspondence record shows Siad forwarding photographs, profiles, and videos of young women to Epstein across a documented period of approximately 2009 to 2017. The countries from which he forwarded candidates include Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Latvia, South Africa, Spain, France, Morocco, Cuba, Tunisia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.1

Two emails quoted in the released record illustrate the register of those communications. In a 2009 message Siad wrote: "I just found an amizinng One she is 20 years old but she looks younger from Latvia." A 2014 message reads: "In This busyness I feel like a fisherman some time I cache quick."1 Both are reproduced in investigative reporting based on the U.S. court release; neither has been verified by an independent primary source this archive has been able to access directly.

Wire documentation from 2018 shows Epstein forwarding Siad's bank details with a note referring to a "$25,000 five-year loan."1 Whether that transaction constituted compensation for recruitment activity or an unrelated personal loan is not established by the available record. Siad has not been charged in connection with Epstein's trafficking operation in any jurisdiction.

    French Charges

In February 2026, French authorities opened a case against Siad over allegations of rape and human trafficking arising from a complaint filed by Ebba Karlsson, a Swedish former model who told investigators she was lured to southern France in 1990, at age 20, under the pretext of a modeling opportunity.23 Karlsson said she recognized Siad from images circulating in Epstein file coverage. As of this writing Siad had not been arrested in France.2 The French charges are unrelated to the Epstein documents; they concern an allegation more than three decades old.

  Svetlana Pozhidaeva (Sofia Platt)

    Background

Svetlana Pozhidaeva was born in Moscow around 1984 and graduated with honors from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), a university administered by the Russian Foreign Ministry that trains diplomats and, critics note, intelligence officers.4 She is fluent in Russian, English, French, Italian, and Spanish and interned at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lukoil, and Russian investment firms before entering modeling circles.5

She met Epstein in 2008, reportedly through Brunel's network, at roughly age 24. Over the following decade she worked as his assistant and, she now acknowledges, recruited women from former-Soviet countries on his behalf. In communications she used the pseudonym "Julia Santos," a reference to a 1990s soap opera character.5 She changed her name formally in Russian state records on January 29, 2020 — five months after Epstein's death — becoming Sofia Yuryevna Platt.4 See also Nadia Marcinko for comparison with another young Eastern-European woman brought into Epstein's inner circle under similar circumstances.

    Financial Arrangements

Pozhidaeva received monthly payments of $8,333 from Epstein's Enhanced Education foundation, amounting to approximately $100,000 per year.5 A separate December 2015 wire transfer of $237,000 was sent from Epstein's offshore Butterfly Trust, marked "for the family"; Pozhidaeva has described that transfer as a loan.5 She additionally co-founded Education Advance with her partner Pendleton King Jr. in 2017, which received more than $50,000 from Epstein, and launched a women's platform called WE Talks, registered at Epstein's address and directly funded by him.4

Reported separately, her brother Sergey traveled to the United States in spring 2015, and Pozhidaeva attempted to place him in Epstein-linked companies. Her parents visited Epstein's Florida residence in December 2015, around the time of the large family wire.4

    Recruiting Activity and Victim Claims

Pozhidaeva has stated publicly: "I'm not denying that I was recruiting women. That's the most embarrassing and shameful and most regretful thing that happened."5 She told OCCRP she was manipulated, physically abused, and coerced from her first visit to Florida, and that Epstein used control over her immigration status, housing, and finances to prevent her from leaving.5 She is described in iStories' investigation as having recruited approximately 18 women from Russia and Ukraine, organizing foot-massage training sessions for recruits and photo shoots on Epstein's island.4

She has declined further media engagement through her attorney Kyle Stroup. She now identifies as a victim of human trafficking and is undergoing trauma recovery in the U.S. Virgin Islands.4 No charges have been filed against her in any jurisdiction.

    The Intelligence-Connection Question

Reporting published in March 2026 by iStories, Explainer, and The Insider identified what they characterized as family ties to Russian security services. The available documentation shows: Pozhidaeva's father Yury, a retired lieutenant colonel who trained as a Persian-language military interpreter, later held security roles at Technopromexport (a Rostec subsidiary), Russian Railways International's Iranian division, and Caspian Services; letters in a leaked Russian database show him corresponding with the FSB Directorate for Moscow pension office in 2022.46

Pozhidaeva has denied that her father was tied to the FSB, and a 2015 email referencing his "FSB past" — cited in investigative reports — has not been reproduced in full in any source this archive can independently verify. Whether her father's career in state-adjacent industries constituted intelligence work, and whether it had any bearing on her relationship with Epstein, remains unproven. The intelligence-link framing is an investigative hypothesis, not an established finding.

  Nastia N.

    Identity and Correspondence

A Ukrainian model referred to in released correspondence only as Nastia N. appears in approximately 1,000 messages spanning 2015 to 2019 between her, Epstein, and his assistant Lesley Groff.7 Ukrainian investigative outlets Slidstvo and Babel reported on these materials in February 2026 following the U.S. Department of Justice release. Her full name has not been published in the sources available to this archive, and it is not reproduced here.

    Payments and Travel

The correspondence shows Groff scheduling Nastia N.'s visits with Epstein, processing payment for a CAD education course, covering round-trip airfare from Kyiv to New York, paying for beauty salon appointments, and arranging a $3,500 MacBook.8 A separate message shows Epstein instructing Groff to transfer $10,000 to Nastia; whether that transfer was made is not confirmed by the available record.7

    Alleged Referral of Candidates

Messages reviewed by Slidstvo and Ukrayinska Pravda show Epstein asking Nastia N. to help find an "assistant" between the ages of 22 and 25 who was "smart and willing to travel." Her documented response was: "Of course, I'll find you some girls."8 She subsequently forwarded the names and details of at least four candidates, including a 25-year-old named Elena from Russia (described as being in Shanghai at the time) and a woman named Dasha.7 The characterization of this correspondence as recruitment is the framing of the investigating outlets; Nastia N.'s own account of her intentions has not been published. She closed her Instagram account and declined comment when approached by journalists.8
